Phu Quoc island - beauty of the South Vietnam

This holiday I spent most of my time with my family, my cute little brother and my bestfriend in Saigon. Eventually sneak in a short trip to Phu Quoc island as well.

It was a four days trips dedicated 4 days to exploring the island on bike, diving and simply relaxing. I made a phone call to my diver friend who is working temporary in Phu Quoc this time of the year for help.

We met up on the north of Phu Quoc. After Minh and I settled in the hotel, T took us for a short tour of the town. We ended up here, watching the sunset on the lighthouse/temple.

It was a quick decision that afternoon that we decided to join the squid fishing boat out. I sat on top of the deck, taking photographs of the new port here. They are building sea defences by way of adding sand and hard infrastructure to protect this habour from strong tidal waves.

It was a failed attempt to fish squid. Apparently you have to put your hook all the way down to the bottom with no tempted food and wait for the squid to bite.
I failed miserably and so did Minh. Yes I have learnt that I have no patience to fish!
Day 2:We are heading off to do some diving here today. Early morning, I wandered around the town to find the perfect spot to watch sunrise. Here, people wake up early, do their morning excercise and prepare their boats to get some catch.

Our dives here were beautiful and corals seem to flourish well without too much human impact. I finished my dive swimming to this little islet here, realising I could stand up on the sand and swum back to the boat.

The sun is setting again as I sit on the rock watching children prime time to swim. It was afterschool and time to play!
Day 3: Today is exciting, we were unable to hire a bicycle thus motorbike was the only way left to go. Our plan is to go from North to South of Phu Quoc ie exploring the entire island in one day!

Leaving at 9, we crossed rough terrain, red dirt road and many are in progress for tamarac layer. We ate sufficient amount of dirt to fill us till dinner. However, the scenery is absolutely pristine. I mean the water is clear and the seaside is still left untouched. An hour later, with out back aching we arrived at the South port. This port is entire new built with many fishing boats docking and also these Vietnam sea border police full armed ships!
We make a return to our town, stopping at the former jail in the war which scared me to death. I was happy to wait out for the harsh sun and draw a picture of me diving yesterday.

Rougly 2 or 3 pm, we decided to continue our journey through the Northern part forest.

Phu Quoc island is beautiful. Around 2000 people on this island and actually it is only newly invested for its tourist potential.

I think I learnt something about myself during this trip to Phu Quoc after surfing the limited photos I took. That I don't care much to take picture the first time I arrive at a new place. I would rather soak in the scenery, the atmosphere and the life of it before coming back again to photograph it. There! I made a promise to come back to Phu Quoc soon!
